Humble Roots Farm To Expand Offerings As Springtime Nears

Humble Roots Farm is gearing up for spring and wants to help people start their own successful gardens at home.

The farm has increased its egg-laying capacity by 400% and looks forward to having an expanded selection of produce, including blueberries and a variety of lettuces, and meats, such as pork, chicken and grass-fed beef, available via its online store by early April.

The farm is also offering a special deal on its online gardening course, designed to help the home gardener set up an organic gardening system.

Owner Kyle Stenersen said the farm’s online store saw a big boost in sales at the start of the pandemic, when many were worried about finding access to everyday staples such as produce, chicken and eggs.

Stenersen said while sales have tapered off a bit over the winter as things have begun to normalize, he’s encouraging the Wilmington community to think about where their food is sourced, not only in times of crisis, but on a regular basis.

Stenersen said that the boost in online ordering last spring made it difficult for the farm to keep up with the demand for items such as chicken and pork. He said he's excited to be able to offer a larger inventory in April that will allow customers to consistently order the products they’re looking for.

Customers who place online orders with the farm have two options for pickup: one is at the farm, at 1247 Scotts Hill Loop Rd., and the other is at the Hemp Farmacy, 1402 S. College Road in midtown Wilmington.

For a limited time, Humble Roots Farm’s online gardening course is being offered at 50% off. Stenersen said the course offers fundamental training for how to create a bountiful plot where pretty much anything that’s planted will do well.

“I’ve taken everything I’ve learned over the past 10 years and broken it down into what I call the four pillars of successful growing: soil health and nutrition, water and irrigation, seeds and plants and protection,” Stenersen said.

The farm is also offering a free seed starting lesson via its website. Registration for the full online course can be done via the website as well, with the discount code SPRINGTIME50.
