The Martschenko family of Cary is bringing Crumbl Cookies, a nationwide cookie franchise, to 311 S. College Road in December.

Dan and Christy Martschenko, along with their daughter Abby, who will be relocating to Wilmington to run the bakery, first experienced Crumbl Cookies while visiting relatives in Utah.

The franchise, which now includes 122 locations across the country, was founded just three years ago in Logan, Utah. The Wilmington location will be the fifth in the state. Other NC locations are in Charlotte, Morrisville, Raleigh and Southern Shores on the Outer Banks,

Dan Martschenko said the family chose Crumbl because it’s a fast-growing franchise with a product they love.

“I think Wilmington will love the concept,” he said. “This seems like the perfect market.”

Dan Martschenko said they selected the space next to the Starbucks in front of Best Buy because it’s a high traffic area that’s close to the University of North Carolina Wilmington as well as neighborhoods and multiple retail outlets.

Crumbl offers a rotating menu of four cookies each week, as well as a milk chocolate chip and a frosted sugar cookie that are always on the menu.

It also serves four to six flavors of ice cream weekly, most of which contain cookie crumbles.

Each store carries the same weekly menu, which is posted every Sunday evening on the website and on social media. Catering is also available.

“These are large gourmet cookies that can easily be shared,” Dan Martschenko said. “We even sell a special cookie cutter for splitting them in half.”

Crumbl offers hundreds of flavors, which Dan Martschenko said is part of what keeps people coming back. They also offer themed cookies at the holidays and for events such as Shark Week.

The Martschenkos plan to open the week before Christmas if everything stays on track with the completion of their build-out.

They hope to hold a soft opening Dec. 17, followed by a free cookie giveaway Dec. 18. Crumbl Cookies will offer online ordering, curbside pickup and delivery.
