After 14 years in business, Southport caterer and restaurant owner Karen Taylor has closed the doors to the restaurant part of Taylor Cuisine Cafe & Catering.

Taylor’s business was known throughout the area for catering events of all sizes and serving breakfast and lunch at 731 N. Howe St.

Taylor said it was with a heavy heart that she made the decision to close following two years of financial difficulties which began following Hurricane Florence, followed by the restoration of the Oak Island Bridge.

“It seemed that ever since Florence, it’s been a snowball effect,” Taylor said. “From struggling with issues with the building to staffing, it’s been impossible to fully recover.”

Taylor said she realized it was time to move on, but hopes to continue to work as a personal chef and caterer, and eventually operate a food truck. She said she is not interested in owning another restaurant.

Taylor intends to keep the Taylor Cuisine Café and Catering Facebook page,
and anyone interested in private, in-home catering can contact her via that page.

“From day one this loving community has embraced us,” Taylor said. “I want to say again thank you to everyone.”
