Stalk & Vine To Host First Beer Dinner

By Jessica Maurer, posted Oct 23, 2019

Stalk & Vine, 224 S. Water St., will host its first beer dinner Thursday, featuring Tarboro Brewing Company.

While Stalk & Vine has been open just a few short months on downtown’s Riverwalk, Tarboro Brewing Company has been brewing on North Main Street in Tarboro for over a decade.

Stalk & Vine owner Zac Brown, a brewmaster and certified cicerone, said he has worked with Tarboro Brewing Co. in the past via his involvement with Waterman’s Brewing Company and the Cape Fear Craft Beer Alliance, and has always enjoyed their beers as well as spending time with the owners and staff.

Brown said that working with breweries on dinners such as this allows he and his staff to delve deeper into the specificity of the flavor of a beer.

“As a brewer myself, I was always excited to be able to use food to highlight the base flavors and more elevated profiles of my beers,” Zac Brown said. “It is very fun to now avail that opportunity to breweries as a venue.”

As for the menu, Brown said he discussed the beer selection with the head brewer at Tarboro in making his final selections. He then discussed the flavor profiles with his chef to create the 5-course pairing menu, which takes diners on a journey from Tarboro’s Lonely Belle Belgian Single with stuffed Brussels sprouts to a Belgian Triple served with poached pears, Asher blue cheese, caramel and almonds for the dessert course.

“Tarboro has very well rounded styles that pair very well with all sorts of food,” Brown said. “Creating the pairings was fun.”

The dinner is $45 per person, with seatings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 910-769-0567 for reservations.
