It’s that time of year again, when vows and resolutions to get healthy are made, and Kale Me Crazy, 6800 Parker Farm Drive at Mayfaire Community Center, is ready to help.

Open now for just over two months, the Atlanta-based superfood cafe is operated by franchisees Kelsey and Michael Schuler, who said they were drawn to the concept because they wanted to invest in a business that supports healthy living.

The Wilmington location is the second in North Carolina; the first is located in Cary.

Kale Me Crazy’s menu features about a dozen cold-pressed juices and another dozen smoothies. The juices are cold-pressed and bottled each morning, which the Schulers said helps to preserve the nutrients. The juices and smoothies, as well as the salads, wraps and bowls, are prepared with organic produce whenever possible.

Kelsey Schuler said the feedback so far has been very positive, and that customers are drawn to the fact that everything is homemade, from the soups to the almond milk.

In addition to juices and smoothies, Kale Me Crazy offers acai bowls; toasts topped with avocado, smoked salmon or almond butter; salads; and wraps.  

Soups such as the Moroccan chickpea and the sweet potato, carrot and ginger have been big sellers, especially on colder days, Kelsey Schuler said. Many items such as these are vegan and gluten-free. 

Another of the most popular items, she said, has been the poke bowl.

“The poke bowl is definitely one of our biggest sellers,” she said. “It’s one of those things that once people try it, they keep coming back for more.”

For those looking for a post-holiday reboot, Kale Me Crazy offers wellness shots as well as three-day cleanse packages for $145. For a post-holiday pick-me-up, try the Power Iced Latte with organic coffee, raw cacao, almond milk, maple syrup and vegan protein. 

Kale Me Crazy is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
