By Jessica Maurer, posted Dec 19, 2018

As the New Year approaches, area wine shops and a local brewery are showcasing bubbles of all varieties to help you select what to pour for your midnight toast.

  • Island Beverage, 1206 N. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach, will host a special edition of their Wine 101 wine education series tonight focused on bubbles. A representative from Tryon Distributing will share several bubbly selections from around the world, and a holiday spread will be served. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
  • Bridgewater Wines, 1132 New Point Blvd., in Leland invites customers to close out the year in style with a free tasting of Champagne and sparkling wines from around the world. A dozen sparklers from eight countries will be poured, including France, Italy, Spain, England and Greece. Owners Susan and Doug Zucker said that from highly rated gems to everyday values, there will be something for everyone. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Good Hops Brewing, 811 Harper Ave. in Carolina Beach, will host a wine and chocolate tasting Dec. 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Guests will enjoy a flight of four sparkling wines and a glass of their choice paired with fine chocolates. The event is limited to 40 participants and is $16 per person. Call (706) 713-1594 to reserve a spot.
