Nakedfin Poke Bowl has opened following an extensive 6-month renovation to the space at 420 Eastwood Road.

Nakedfin specializes in an East Coast version of poke, the Hawaiian specialty, which is a raw fish salad prepared with chopped fish and a variety of accompaniments, somewhat similar to ceviche. It is traditionally prepared in advance and sold by the pound, but at Nakedfin, each poke bowl will be made fresh to order.

“I think that this method of preparation is better suited to our area,” co-owner Alyssa Hart said. “People want things that are fresh and that they can customize.”

Nakedfin offers several signature bowls as well as a create-your-own option. Guests will select a base of rice, mixed greens with kale or taro chips, a protein -- raw tuna or salmon, cooked shrimp or tofu -- and then select a sauce, a variety of fresh mixed vegetables and toppers such as sesame seeds, seaweed salad, avocado and fresh fish roe.

Bowls will be available in medium and large sizes, ranging from $9.49 to $12.95. Signature bowls include the Pacific, with salmon, mango, edamame, sweet onion, citrus ponzu, cilantro and sesame seeds, and the Heatwave, with tuna, salmon, jalapeno, cucumber, green onions, sriracha mayo, avocado and crispy onions.

Poke is traditionally a grab-n-go style meal, but Nakedfin has seating for about 20 guests, including a long, surfboard-shaped community table, designed by Ryan Byrd, who also did all of the flooring and custom woodwork throughout the building. The interior is decorated with reclaimed wood, a blue floor that makes one feel as if you’re walking on water, and lots of succulents. Outdoor seating will be available in the spring, as will beer and wine.

Owners Alyssa and Ritchie Hart encourage customers to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for information about an upcoming grand opening celebration as well as daily special information. As the summer season approaches, they will be working with Mott’s Channel Seafood to bring in fresh seafood such as octopus and yellowtail for specials. The Harts may also offer some traditional Hawaiian poke throughout the summer months.

Nakedfin Poke Bowl is open 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
