There are just a few days left to shop at the Dewey’s Bakery pop-up shop at Santa’s Workshop in Mayfaire Town Center. The Moravian Covenant Church of Wilmington is sponsoring the shop, which will be open until Saturday.
Dewey’s was founded in downtown Winston-Salem in 1930, and was the area’s first all-electric bakery. Original offerings included sugar cakes and cookies and Lovefeast buns. Today, Dewey’s specializes in everything from cupcakes to wedding cakes, as well as a large selection of Moravian cookies and crackers and ice cream.
They may be best known for their thin and crispy Moravian cookies and cheese straws that are sold under the Salem Baking Co. label. Holiday favorites include cranberry orange and ginger spice, as well as the signature collection of chocolate dipped cookies in flavors such as mint, blood orange, toasted coconut and salted caramel.
While Dewey’s products can be found at several Wilmington retailers, the pop-up shop likely has the largest selection of the bakery's sweet and savory goods in the area.
This is the first time that the Moravian Covenant Church of Wilmington has partnered with Dewey’s for the pop-up shop. While representatives from Dewey’s came to set up the shop and take care of restocking, the shop is staffed by volunteers from the church, which will receive a portion of the sales. Dewey’s partners with more than 40y groups around the state for pop-ups throughout the holiday season, according to volunteer Kathy Britt.
“We’ve had a really good response and it’s been a lot of fun,” Britt said. “Hopefully this is something that we’ll continue to do for years to come.”
The Dewey’s Bakery pop-up shop is located at Santa’s Workshop, 830 Inspiration Drive in Mayfaire Town Center, and is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Dec. 23.
