Carolina Smokehouse Opening This Week In Carolina Beach

By Jessica Maurer, posted Dec 6, 2017
After 30 years in business in Cashiers, Tammy and Robert Williams announced last spring that they were bringing Carolina Smokehouse to the beach.

The family-run restaurant, which has been featured on PBS and the Food Network, specializes in hardwood-smoked brisket, pork, ribs and chicken as well as a homemade tomato-based barbecue sauce.

While Tammy and Robert will still have a hand in the business, their children, Jon and Cody Williams and Jennifer Smith, will handle the majority of day-to-day operations at the restaurant's new Carolina Beach Boardwalk location (pictured at right), which will hold a soft opening Dec. 7.

The 18,000-square-foot space at 9 Pavilion Ave. has undergone a full renovation. Unexpected delays have pushed back the original expected opening date by nearly six months.

The casual dining area is decorated with galvanized metal and reclaimed wood, as well as license plates from around the country. There is a full bar with domestic and craft beer as well as specialty moonshine cocktails.

In addition to barbecue, Carolina Smokehouse serves burgers, sandwiches and fried shrimp. Cody Williams prepares daily specials as well as homemade desserts each day. Pulled pork and beef are available by the pound, as well as whole chickens, racks of ribs, and sides by the pint. For orders of five pounds or more advance orders are requested.

Construction will begin in early spring on a roof deck that is expected to seat about 40 guests.

Carolina Smokehouse is located at 9 Pavilion Ave. on the boardwalk in Carolina Beach and will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and for dinner from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
