The Hub, University of North Carolina Wilmington’s newest dining space, opened its doors Aug. 12, just in time for the university’s move-in day.

The 10,000-square-foot, two-story space is located in the heart of the school's freshman residence area between Galloway and Graham-Hewlett halls, at 5031 Riegel Road, and was designed to bring convenience and a comfortable gathering space to students.

The Hub houses MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes, Starbucks and a P.O.D. Market (Provisions on Demand).

MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes is a fast-casual burger concept offering made-to-order burgers, hand-cut French fries and shakes. Founded in 2007, the Plano, Texas-based company serves fresh Angus beef burgers, all-natural turkey burgers, all-natural grilled and crispy chicken sandwiches and black bean veggie burgers on house-baked buns. Customers can choose from five kinds of cheeses, bacon, avocado, chili and more than 20 free sauces and toppings made from fresh vegetables.

“This new venue with its variety of dining options is a much-welcomed addition to this area of campus,” said Matt Rogers, resident district manager of campus dining. “In addition to the backyard green space, the building itself has a host of features designed to lessen the environmental impact of the building’s operation.”

Sustainable features include LED lighting fixtures, permeable pavers to eliminate stormwater runoff and exterior “rain chains” that drain water from the roof directly to the ground underneath. Located in the back of the facility is a self-service bike shop where students can tune up their bikes free of charge with tools provided.

Like all restaurants on campus, MOOYAH is open to the public. Other campus restaurants include Subway, Chick-fil-A, Port City Java, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Dunkin Donuts, several delis, a Mexican cantina and a farm-to-table grill. For a full list of UNCW dining options and hours of operation, go to the university's dining webpage
