Friends and home-brew enthusiasts are joining forces for a beer tasting and cookbook signing on Saturday.

Michelle and John Savard, owners of Wilmington Brewing Company, are hosting the event for their friend and local cookbook author Elena Rosemond-Hoerr to celebrate the release of "The Southern Cast Iron Cookbook."

Rosemond-Hoerr is making one of John Savard’s favorite dishes from the book, the Ancestral Lemon Chess Pie, for people to try. And the friends worked together to create a unique beer that will be tapped for tastes and pint pours. The Cast Iron Lemon Gose was made using lemon peels toasted in cast iron and Clarity Ferm, an enzyme that reduces the gluten in the beer.

“It’s a lemony, sour, sea salt beer with lots of herbal flavors,” Michelle Savard said. Gose is a German-style top-fermented beer that has experienced a bit of a revival in recent years.

The beer was brewed in cask, which will be opened at 2 p.m.

It’s a one-off beer, so when it’s gone, it’s gone,” she said.

Pomegranate Books is selling cookbooks and the Seahawk Food Wagon will also be on-site, serving selections from Rosemond-Hoerr’s book. Proceeds from the event will go to Feast Down East.

Wilmington Brewing Company is a brewery and taproom connected to Wilmington Homebrew Supply, which sells products for making craft beer at home at 824 S. Kerr Ave.
