An Asheville chef who has gained worldwide recognition is coming to Wilmington in July to collaborate on a multi-course fundraiser dinner at downtown Wilmington eatery manna.

Katie Button, executive chef and co-owner of Cúrate Tapas Bar and Nightbell in Asheville, placed among Food & Wine's Best New Chefs in 2015 and released her first cookbook, "Cúrate: Authentic Spanish Food from an American Kitchen," last year.

Button will be the featured chef for the seventh annual Ellie White Foundation Charity Dinner on July 6 at manna, 123 Princess St., including dinner and a silent auction to benefit The Ellie White Foundation for Rare Genetic Disorders. The event starts at 6 p.m.,  and tickets are $175 per person.

The foundation is named after a child who has Wolfram syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that causes childhood-onset diabetes mellitus, optic atrophy, deafness and other disorders.

Billy Mellon, owner of manna, said Button's appearance will help draw attention to Wolfram syndrome because it's a disorder "that basically no one knows about and therefore these types of syndromes are often overlooked and certainly underfunded."

He said asking people to come and eat the food of "amazing chefs" like Button is a good way to tell Ellie's story. Another way is a full-length feature documentary in the works called A Light in Shadows, written and directed by Jocelyn Leroux, who is the reason behind Mellon's involvement in the foundation, Mellon said.

Of Button's visit, Mellon said, "We are over the moon to have Katie as our celebrity chef this year. We know she will add immense value to the dinner and charity, and I know that she will remain a part of Ellie's team in perpetuity."

The dinners often sell out ahead of time. Those who want to attend the fundraiser dinner at manna featuring Katie Button can purchase tickets online.
