Celeste Glass, owner of The Fortunate Glass, 29 S. Front St., has signed on to open a new restaurant in the South Front development, a local commercial real estate firm announced recently.

The Second Glass will be located on the lower level of the Second Street portion of the site that is soon to be under construction, according to the announcement from MoMentum Companies.

“We are thrilled to have Celeste Glass join this exciting project, bringing her award-winning concept on board,” said MoMentum Companies president Terry Espy. ”What a perfect complement to Vivian Howard’s venue, Benny’s Big Time Pizzeria.”

The recent announcement of Vivian Howard and Ben Knight of Chef and The Farmer opening Benny’s Big Time Pizzeria in late 2017 has brought significant interest to the South Front mixed-use project, Espy said.

Overall plans for the commercial portion of the project include the complete renovation of the Capps Building to include 18,000 square feet of industrial-style retail space, as well as another 11,000 square feet of office space on the second floor. Along Second Street, a new two-story, urban-designed building will host 7,000 square feet of retail space on the ground level and 6,800 square feet of office space on the second floor. Plans also call for several outdoor gathering areas.

Glass established The Fortunate Glass in September 2010 after working in restaurants in Charleston, Nashville, Vail and Wilmington, and as a wine distributor for Wisdom Beverage. By building a wine list with wines from every region and at all price points, she quickly earned a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. The Second Glass has been a vision of hers for some time now, she said.

“After six years in business, we realized that we have outgrown the current space and we needed more room to grow,” said Glass. “I plan to keep The Fortunate Glass and want The Second Glass to be a continuation of The Fortunate Glass concept. The Second Glass will be a wine bar first, with small plates that accompany and complement the wine.  The kitchen will be much larger and they will be able to provide a larger selection of small plates.  A difference will be the addition of a selection of classic cocktails to round out the offerings."

Glass said customers can expect more pairing menus and wine dinners from chefs Ryan O’Janpa and Kyle Martin in the new space.

“I couldn’t make this next step without my terrific staff at The Fortunate Glass,” she said.

The Second Glass is expected to open in early 2018.
