Geno’s Pizza is now open for business at 124 Princess St., the space formerly occupied by The Greeks Authentic Mediterranean Deli. The Greeks
vacated the building following a property dispute in February.
Geno’s co-owner, Geno Jewell, has been in the pizza business in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, since 2001. A family friend mentored him and helped him learn the business of serving New York-style pizza. He recently sold both Geno’s Pizza locations in Myrtle Beach with thoughts of retiring from the restaurant business, but it wasn’t long before he moved to Wilmington and got the urge to start cranking out more pies.
“I also wanted to have a place that I could hand down to my son one day, should he want it,” Jewell said.
Geno’s serves a simple menu of pizza, Stromboli, and calzones. Pizza is available by the slice as well as 18 and 20-inch pies. Those who prefer a fully loaded pizza will likely want to order the Bada Bing, which includes 4 or more toppings; add as many as you like and the price stays the same.
Jewell makes the pizza dough and sauce from scratch and has developed his own signature mix of cheeses.
“I’ve used the same supplier for 17 years and I don’t even have to ask people how they like the pizza, they just come right up and tell me how much they love it,” Jewell said.
Being situated next to Goodfella’s and Hell’s Kitchen, Jewell stays open until 3 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Delivery is always offered and he said his crew is willing to stay open past 10 on weeknights as long as orders keep coming in.
Jewell also plans to host a monthly kids night called Nicholas Night, in honor of his 8-year-old son, Nicholas, where kids can make their own pizzas. Parents who are interested in having their children attend should sign up for the monthly email invitation for Nicholas Night at the restaurant.
Geno’s Pizza is located at 124 Princess St. and is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
