Topsail Steamer To Offer Steam Pots To Go In Surf City

Topsail Steamer is bringing a new concept to Surf City – steam pots to go.

Opening this Saturday, Topsail Steamer offers five signature pots, ranging from New England Clambakes to Low Country Boils, as well as a create-your-own option. The pots contain fresh seafood, meats, veggies and homemade spice blends.

For years, owner Danielle Mahon found herself spending much of her time at the family’s Surf City beach house preparing seafood dinners. She recently became a permanent resident and didn’t waste any time putting the finishing touches on her business plan.

“There are three main things we provide: quality, convenience and experience,” Mahon said.

Mahon hopes to appeal to those who want to enjoy the local fare without having to eat out. And rather than having to make several stops for all the components of a home-cooked meal, Topsail Steamer is one-stop shopping.

Topsail Steamer will serve local seafood whenever possible and has partnered with Sugar Island Bakery for grab-n-go desserts. All the customer needs to do is decide which pot to serve, then take it home to cook for 40 minutes. Topsail Steamer also provides a disposable pot, sheets of brown paper to serve it on and all the condiments. All the prep work is done, and the clean up is easy, Mahon said.

She said that while all the pots are made to order, many of the ingredients are pre-portioned so that customers can get in and out quickly if they haven’t ordered in advance.

Mahon said she hopes to become a stopping point for folks on their way to houses at the beach. She even offers a “first night” discount and free delivery on all pre-orders for Saturdays.

“It’s our intent that if this season goes well, we’ll be able to expand into neighboring markets,” Mahon said.

Topsail Steamer is located at 303 South Topsail Drive, Unit B in Surf City. The full menu, pre-orders and hours of operation are available online.
