Tailwind Concessions, the Wilmington-based company that operates airport concessions at 15 regional airports nationwide, has plans for its first stand-alone restaurant on the grounds of Wilmington International Airport.

Scratch on 23rd will serve gourmet breakfast and lunch items, according to Mitchel Provens, corporate operations assistant – marketing for Tailwind. The restaurant will occupy one of the seven units in the multi-use building that is owned by Wilmington International Airport and anchored by Toshiba.

According to Provens, Scratch on 23rd will offer scratch-made pastries and sandwiches at competitive price points. The counter-service restaurant will offer a few tables for dining-in, but the main target is carryout service, Provens said. Online and call-ahead ordering will be available.

“There are a number of industrial parks in the 23rd Street area and a lot of commuters that travel this way every day with very few dining options,” Provens said. “Scratch will provide gourmet, healthful options to both ILM passengers as well as the many people who work and live on and around 23rd Street. We hope to be a destination for all those in Wilmington looking for fresh, homemade meals at a great price.”

Construction is now underway, and Provens is hopeful that Scratch on 23rd will open in March.

“Being that this is our first concept outside of an airport, we want to be sure that everything is done right in order to provide optimal food and service,” Provens said.
