Kim and Matt Lennert are bringing their passion for wholesome, fresh food to Lumina Commons in early spring with Spoonfed Kitchen & Bake Shop.

The couple owned and operated Moveable Feast, a catering company and café in the Chicago area, for many years, growing it from a small quirky café  to a company with dozens of employees. Moveable Feast’s brownies were featured by Oprah Winfrey on her coveted “Oprah’s Favorite Things” program and served at the White House throughout the Obama administration.

After selling Moveable Feast to longtime employees a few years ago, the Lennerts relocated to Wilmington this past summer to fulfill a lifelong dream of living by the ocean, and soon began scouting locations for their next food venture. Spoonfed Kitchen & Bake Shop will be located at 1930 Eastwood Road in Lumina Commons, the former home of The Seasoned Gourmet, which is now located at 5500 Market St.

“Wilmington already feels like home to us and we are really looking forward to developing businesses and being involved in the community,” Kim Lennert said.

Lennert said they considered a downtown location, as they were used to operating in a more urban area, but the Lumina Commons location will help them reach both locals and tourists who may be looking to supplement their meals with fresh, family-style dishes.

Lennert said it was important to her to have a space that would allow for a café as well as a catering operation.

“Having a shop and café as well as the catering allows for a more personal connection with our customers,” Lennert said.

The café at Spoonfed Kitchen will serve breakfast and lunch as well as homemade baked goods and Folks Café coffee. There will also be a prepared foods counter with a variety of salads and sides by the pound, soups, spreads and dinner options such as crab cakes and grilled meats. The shop will also carry a small selection of artisanal market items.

Spoonfed Kitchen & Bake Shop is expected to open by late February to early March 2017.
