Taste Of The Town Offers Sample Of 14 Downtown Eateries

By Jessica Maurer, posted Sep 14, 2016
Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts will host the 2016 Thalian Hall Taste of The Town on Sept. 20. The annual fundraiser will feature a tasting tour of 14 downtown eateries.

Participants will gather at Thalian Hall at 6 p.m. to receive credentials and a map of participating restaurants, then travel through downtown by foot or trolley to each location. Restaurants will provide appetizer portions of their best dishes, and participants are asked to vote for their favorites.

“Patrons love it because it is a chance to sample the food of the best restaurants in downtown Wilmington, and the nomadic nature makes it an adventure that is different from anything else,” said Thalian Hall marketing director Gary Tucker.

Last year’s participants awarded Cousins Italian Deli the Best Entrée award for a double bite that included penne Bolognese and chicken Marsala. The Best Overall award was given to The George on the Riverwalk for chef Larry Fuller’s shrimp and grits with blue crab, a crab and corn chowder and grilled pork chops with apples over mashed sweet potatoes.

This year’s participating restaurants include: Beer Barrio, Betsy’s Crepes, Cousins Italian Deli, Elijah’s, Fat Tony’s, The Fortunate Glass, The George on the Riverwalk, The Greeks, The Little Dipper, Buzz’s Roost, Pilot House, Caprice Bistro and first-time participants Bella’s Bar Local and Platypus & Gnome.

Only 300 tickets are available for the event and can be purchased at the Thalian Hall Box Office at 632-2285 or online.

All tickets are $50 and proceeds will benefit Thalian Hall Center for Performing Arts.
