Sunny Singh, owner of Nawab Fine Indian Cuisine, has begun offering a weekly vegan buffet on Wednesday evenings.

The for $15.99, diners can sample a variety of dishes including vegetable jalfarzi , channa masala, tofu broccoli kadhai, dal tarka and South Indian sambar.

Singh said that many traditional Indian dishes can be made as vegan dishes simply by altering some of the cooking methods.

In addition to the weekly buffet, Singh is also hosting a monthly vegan wine tasting one Wednesday a month.

During the fining and filtering of wines, egg whites are often added to the must, freshly pressed fruit juice that contains the skins, seeds and stems of the fruit, and used to filter sediment. For vegans, the addition of egg whites to the must makes wines processed in this manner undrinkable.

Ryann Harris, a certified sommelier and representative for Empire Distributing, said there are numerous winemakers dedicated to producing vegan wines using a filtering technique known as cold stabilization, which eliminates the need for egg whites. Harris hosts the monthly tastings at Nawab and has worked with Singh to add a number of vegan wines to his wine list.

Harris provides two red and two whites for sampling 6-8 p.m. during the vegan buffet.  The next wine tasting will be held on August 17.

Nawab Fine Indian Cuisine is located at 6828 Market St.
