Wake N Bake Donuts, the Carolina Beach-based doughnut shop specializing in creative flavor combinations, has created a doughnut dessert exclusively for the Lazy Pirate, also of Carolina Beach.

The dessert, aptly named “Glazed and Confused,” features a mix of red velvet cake and chocolate cake doughnut holes topped with a drizzle chocolate and caramel. The dessert is served warm with a side of whipped cream.

A doughnut version of the dessert will also be available at Wake N Bake Donuts, 1401 N. Lake Park Blvd., Suite 46, throughout the summer according to owner Danny Tangredi. The doughnut features a marbled red velvet and chocolate cake donut with chocolate and caramel on top.

“We have been trying to figure out different ways we could work with local businesses on the island to help cross promote each other and bring positive awareness to the island as a whole,” Tangredi said. “The Lazy Pirate is a very special place, and we are honored to be able to have them help bring awareness to our business and look forward to introducing our customers to them.”

The Lazy Pirate, 701 N. Lake Park Blvd., serves seafood, burgers, sandwiches and salads as well as a variety of appetizers and daily specials. The restaurant expanded to include the opening of a crab and oyster bar last spring.

"We are very proud to have the opportunity to work in harmony with Wake N Bake Donuts," said Jamie Aiken, co-owner of Lazy Pirate. "I believe we both approach our success with a shared vision that all Carolina Beach businesses should work together to support each other and this community. For us, this is simply practicing what we preach. Plus, their doughnut are insanely delicious, so there's that too."

In addition to fresh doughnut, tea and coffee, Wake N Bake also makes a variety of fritters, cinnamon rolls, stuffed donuts and doughnut waffles. Extended summer hours are Sunday- Thursday, 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 6:30 a.m.-10 p.m.
