The Wilmington area continues to see growth in the area of franchise development with the announcement of several new locations for national eatery brands.
New Jersey-based Jersey Mike’s Subs, will open shop in the former Brew Thru at 910 N. Lake Park Blvd. in Carolina Beach. The franchise currently has three Wilmington locations as well as one in Leland. A representative from franchise development said that information on the franchisee and an expected opening date will not be available until early March.
Duck Donuts, a doughnut shop that originated on the Outer Banks, announced via Facebook the opening of a store at Mayfaire Community Center. Duck Donuts was founded by Russell A. DiGilio and then partner Robin Griffith, to fill the void of fresh-baked doughnuts in the vacation communities of the Outer Banks. The company offers made-to-order doughnuts, allowing customers to create their own confections from a list of icings and toppings.
Paige Somervell, marketing director for Mayfaire Town Center, confirmed that a lease has been signed and a late spring opening is expected
And scheduled to open later this week is Gigi’s Cupcakes at 336 S. College Road. Founded in Nashville in 2008 by Gigi Butler, the franchise has grown to over 100 locations in 23 states. Specializing in gourmet cupcakes with a rotating menu of flavors as well as sugar free and gluten free options, Gigi’s also offers cheesecakes, muffins, sweet breads and cookies.
Chris Suggs, who provides consulting to entrepreneurs interested in franchising opportunities with FranNet, said that the Wilmington market is popular among franchise developers because of continued growth and a diverse population that includes families, students and retirees.
