It’s time to get out and urge your favorite local chefs to put themselves on the chopping block.

Dana Brancato, owner of Lime & the Coconut Public Relations, has announced that the producers of Chopped, a Food Network cooking competition show, are seeking Wilmington-area chefs to compete in upcoming episodes.

"Chopped has never featured Wilmington chefs,” Brancato said. “And it could be a huge boost in business for them and their restaurants.”

Beginning next month, Chopped casting director Beth Schiff will be selecting cities to feature on the show. Ten Wilmington chefs must submit applications in order for the city to be considered, Brancato said.

While competing on Chopped, chefs battle their way course by course though baskets of mystery ingredients. Each course is judged by a panel of expert judges who must “chop” one contestant after each of the three courses, until only one champion remains.

Brancato has teamed up with local filmmaker Dave Azor of Lighthouse Films to help interested applicants put together submission packets.

“Getting local chefs on Chopped will not only give them national recognition and a chance to win $10,000, but it will also highlight the growing food scene in the Cape Fear,” Brancato said.

Brancato said Chopped will accept professional chefs, sous chefs and personal chefs. Interested applicants can see full details here.
