Port City Dining Recognized In National Online Polls

Dining in the Port City has been getting a lot of online buzz of late.

Websites Thrillist.com and Scoutology.com ranked several local establishments on “best of” lists while downtown Wilmington won "Best Al Fresco Dining Neighborhood" in a USA Today reader’s choice poll.

Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn was listed as serving one of the “33 Best Burritios in America” on Thrillist.com. It’s not the first time Flaming Amy’s has made a national list. Last year, it was one of 64 contenders in FiveThirtyEight.com’s “Search for America’s Best Burrito.”

Three local restaurants were named in Scoutology.com’s “18 Top North Carolina Burger Joints": Winnie’s Tavern, The Fork N’ Cork and Tazy’s Burgers and Grill all made the list compiled by Scoutology content manager Maggie Comeau.

“We usually hear about the polls from customers,” said James Smith, owner of The Fork N’ Cork. “Rarely do we know we’re being considered but it’s always nice to be recognized.”

As for the al fresco dining award, USA Today’s 10best.com readers were able to vote daily on their favorite U.S. neighborhoods for outdoor eating from of a list of 20 cities. Other neighborhoods placing in the top five were Fifth Avenue South in Naples, Florida; Main Street in Greenville, South Carolina; Vail Village in Vail, Colorado; and Larimer Square in Denver. The voting lasted four weeks.
