Local Breweries Forming Guild

Update: This version corrects event activities, which will not include live music.

Ironclad Brewery will host the August Festival on Aug. 29 in celebration of local breweries and the development of a local brewer’s guild.

Participating breweries include Broomtail Craft Brewery, Cape Fear Brewing Co., Good Hops Brewing, Check Six Brewing Co., Front Street Brewery, Wilmington Brewing Co. and Ironclad.

The event at Ironcald, 115 N. Second St., is an opportunity for the community to meet representatives from each local brewery and sample their beers. It is also designed to help fund the local brewer’s guild which is in the process of being developed, according to Ironclad assistant brewer Lydia Berzonsky.

“We are still working on finalizing the name for the guild and some of the other operational details,” Berzonsky said. “The goal is to work together as a group to promote Wilmington breweries and help one another with everything from the sharing of ingredients to shipping costs.”

Berzonsky said some of the guild's first goals would be to create a map of local breweries for visitors and to work with groups throughout the Port City to promote the sale of locally brewed beer at community events.

Tickets for the festival, which can be purchased at Bombers Bev Co. and Cape Fear Beer & Wine, are $45 and include beer and wine tastings and food. A question-and-answer session with the local brewers will take place at 3 p.m. The festival runs 1-5 p.m., at which point Ironclad will then be open to the public.
