Tidal Creek Co-op will host its second farm-to-table event Friday.

The event — “Outdoor Farm to Table Dessert and Wine Tasting” — is part of a new initiative by the food cooperative to host regular community events at its location at 5329 Oleander Drive, according to Katie Wright, marketing manager at Tidal Creek.

Tidal Creek hopes to conduct a farm-to-table event at least six times a year.

The upcoming farm-to-table tasting will feature local area farmers, a dessert buffet and tastings of local wines. The event costs $25 to attend.

Last month, Tidal Creek hosted an “Outdoor Farm To Table Brunch,” which sold out both of its seatings, leading the co-op to consider hosting events more regularly, Wright said.

“The basis of our existence is to bring the community together and find foods that are nourishing,” she said. “[The first event] made us realize people are wanting to have an extra step to connect with their food source.”

The events are not just an opportunity for consumers to try new foods but also a chance for farmers to get their names out into the community, Wright said.

“Farmers are so passionate about their work,” she said, “and it is very rare that they get to do any marketing and connect with their customers. It really humanizes the whole process.”
