Following several months of delays due to construction, Betsy Markey, owner of Betsy’s Crepes, says her downtown location will be open sometime next week.

According to Markey, a few plumbing issues still need to be addressed and a final inspection must still take place before the new creperie can officially open the doors.

This will be the second location for Betsy’s Crepes. Markey’s success in Southern Pines, combined with her sons' interest in expanding into Wilmington, led her to sign a five-year lease on the property at 127 N. Front St. earlier this year. The building was previously home to Nick’s Diner. Markey and her sons Jack and Derek, who will serve as managers, will split their time between the two locations.

The menu will be the same at both locations, with a few new additions. The menu includes a wide variety of sweet and savory crepes, all made to order using fresh ingredients. A window has been installed in the new location so that customers can view the homemade crepes as they are being prepared.

The downtown location also features a custom-built bar designed and constructed by Derek Markey. A full bar will be available as well as a signature Bloody Mary bar. Customers can design their own Bloody Marys, selecting everything from the vodka to the garnishes.

“One of the things that makes this location really special for us is that several members of our original staff from Southern Pines now live in Wilmington and five or six of them are returning to work for us again in this new location,” said Markey. She attributes much of her success in Southern Pines to the hard work and dedication of her family and staff.
