Islands Fresh Mex Grill opened a third location July 1 on North Front Street in Wilmington. The fast-casual restaurant specializes in build-your-own tacos, burritos, enchiladas and quesadillas.

Owner Lucas Jones said a concept like Islands was needed downtown. Jones opened his original Islands location on Racine Drive in 2008, followed by an Ogden location in 2013. The new eatery, just a block from Cape Fear Community College, is likely to attract students looking for a quick, inexpensive meal.

“I felt that downtown needed a fast, fresh and affordable option for diners,” Jones said.

The menu will be the same as at other Islands locations, with $1.99 tacos (any variety) available every day for lunch with the purchase of a drink and $1 chicken or ground beef tacos every night with the purchase of a drink.

Besides the build-your-own menu, Islands features several specialties such as Jerk and Buffalo chicken burritos, bacon cheeseburger and pork barbeque burritos, and a chicken club quesadilla. Catering with delivery is also available.

Islands Fresh Mex Grill restaurants are at 260 Racine Drive, 7032 Market St. and 310 N. Front St.
