Silver Coast Winery has announced a partnership with The Warrior Ride organization of Oak Island. The Warrior Ride is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping wounded veterans in their rehabilitation through recreational activities such as adaptive bicycling, kayaking and golf. There are Warrior Ride events taking place across the United States and they are free to all service members by way of grants and donations.
The Warrior Ride of Oak Island is sponsoring the Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall, which is set to arrive in Oak Island July 2. The wall is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC. It stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end. The wall will be on display through July 6 at Oak Island Middleton Park and is free to the public.
This traveling memorial stands as a reminder of the sacrifices made during the Vietnam War. It was made for the purpose of helping heal and rekindle friendships and to allow people who may not be able to make the trip to Washington a chance to view a replica of the wall.
For its part, Silver Coast Winery has created three limited release wines: Warrior Ride White, Warrior Ride Blush and Warrior Ride Red. A portion of the proceeds of each of these wines will be donated to The Warrior Ride organization.
According to the winery’s tasting notes, the Warrior Ride White is made with white vinifera grapes and blended to be similar in style to a Pinot Grigio. It is described as crisp and fruity with a dry finish and is said to pair well with cheeses, fish or poultry. White and red European-style grapes were blended to produce a medium-dry, full-bodied rosé that is the Warrior Ride Blush. Suggested pairings are fruit and cheese and pulled pork. The Warrior Ride Red is made from vinifera grapes in the style of a Chianti or Bordeaux red. It is suggested to be paired with burgers or steaks as well as pastas with marinara sauce.
The Warrior Ride wines are available for sample and purchase at the Silver Coast Winery Tasting Room, located at 105 S Howe St. in Southport. For more information on the Warrior Ride organization,
