9 Bakery and Lounge has closed its doors after two years in business, according to the restaurant's Facebook page.

A post from June 14 stated: “It's been a great two years, but unfortunately this will be our last day of business. Please come out and have your favorite brunch items and celebrate the end of a wonderful endeavor with us.”

Owner Matthew Schuler told the Greater Wilmington Business Journal Monday that he was unable to comment on the closure until several matters are settled with his landlord. Schuler, a Boston native, has been working in the restaurant industry since 1996. In a Facebook post Monday, Schuler said health problems were a factor.

“Unfortunately my health has become a major concern and I will have to close the restaurant. My sincere thanks to all that have worked for me and to all of the customers that we have been blessed to know,” he wrote. “Thank you for your time and patronage.”

9 Front Street has seen its share of turnover since Caffe Phoenix, which operated there from 1989-2010, closed its doors. Crow Hill operated for two years prior to 9 Bakery and Lounge.

9 Bakery and Lounge was known for its homemade doughnuts and pastries by morning and tapas and cocktails by night.

Canapé at the Cameleon Lounge has also closed. Chef Rusty Tolan told the Greater Wilmington Business Journal in April that his new menu would be “a unique fusion of international flavors.” Following the re-launch, the restaurant remained open for just two months. Owners Ronald Rene and Rusty Tolan could not be reached Monday for comment.
