Wilmington Vegan, a community organization dedicated to providing resources and information to vegans throughout southeastern North Carolina, has released an updated edition of the Wilmington Vegan Dining Guide.

The new edition features listings of more than 50 area restaurants, groceries and cafés from Southport to Jacksonville that are vegan-friendly. It also provides information on personal chefs, CSAs (community supported agriculture) and farmers markets as well as wellness and community organizations.

Wilmington Vegan was founded in 2011 by local longtime vegan Sue Cag. Since that time, more than 500 members have joined the group and leadership is handled by a board of volunteers.

To meet Wilmington Vegan’s vegan-friendly criteria, restaurants must have vegan items on their menu (in addition to salads) and be approved by Wilmington Vegan members. In order for other businesses to qualify as vegan-friendly they must be either vegan-owned, offer a number of explicitly vegan products and/or services or offer distinct services for the vegan community.

Each restaurant listing provides a price range: those marked with $ are the least expensive, those with $$$$ are the most expensive. Also included are location and website information as well as a sample of vegan offerings.

“Both locals and visitors alike have told me they’ve used our guide to figure out where to go,” Wilmington Vegan founder Cag said on the guide’s welcome page. “Even native Wilmingtonians found new places or simply used it as a refresher.”

The guide is available online as a flipbook and free PDF download. Physical copies are available at Sealevel City Gourmet, Uprising and Tidal Creek Co-op, or can be requested by mail.
