A new book featuring profiles and recipes from coastal North Carolina restaurants hits the shelves next week. "Chefs of the Coast: Restaurants & Recipes from the North Carolina Coast" is the follow-up to John E. Batchelor’s "Chefs of the Mountains and Chefs of the Triangle".

Batchelor, a restaurant reviewer with the Greensboro News & Record, traveled the coast from Elizabeth City to Southport interviewing both well-established and up-and-coming chefs. Each profile includes a description of the restaurant, sample menu items and recipes as well as photographs of the food and chefs.

With 13 entries, Wilmington is the most well represented region in the book. Batchelor features well-known Wilmington chefs such as Thierry Moity of Caprice Bistro, Keith Rhodes of Catch and Shawn Wellersdick and Anne Steketee of Port Land Grille as well as rising stars James Doss of Pembroke’s/Rx and Jameson Chavez of Manna, just to name a few.

"Chefs of the Coast" serves not only as a guidebook for those looking for a great bite to eat while visiting the coast or for locals looking to expand their dining options; it also doubles as a cookbook for those who enjoy preparing restaurant-quality meals at home.

“I admire what chefs do,” Batchelor said. “I envy their knowledge and skills. This book is a tribute to their endeavors.”

"Chefs of the Coast" will be available everywhere books are sold May 5.
