After confirming earlier Wednesday by phone that the company has plans to open a facility in Wilmington this year, an official with Atwater Brewery said the Detroit-based firm has not made a final decision on a location for its southeast brewery.

Atwater had responded positively Wednesday on Twitter to a question about its Wilmington plans. Local brewery touring company Port City Brew Bus asked Atwater on Wednesday morning whether it was coming to the Port City, and the company tweeted back, "thats [sic] the plan."

In reference later to the tweet, the official said no location and no date for an announcement about a location has been determined. 

“We will send out a press release soon,” Mark Rieth, CEO and owner, said in an email from Atwater.

Representatives from the company visited Wilmington in 2013 to look at potential sites. In its tweeted question, Port City Brew Bus referenced an article from the Detroit online news magazine Model D about Atwater, a growing company that, according to the article, wants to expand not only into North Carolina but also into Texas, in addition to its plans to enter new markets.
