Veteran Triangle restaurateur Thai Nguyen has opened Sushi X, an Asian fusion bistro located in the Beau Rivage shopping center at 5920 Carolina Beach Road, south of Monkey Junction.

The restaurant occupies the roughly 4,800-square-foot space that formerly housed Tengu Japanese Steakhouse. Nguyen, who operates nine restaurants in the Triangle under a variety of names, opened a Sushi X in the Hampstead Town Center earlier this year. Sushi X’s menu includes Japanese specialties such as sushi and hibachi as well as Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes.

“The cuisine is Asian fusion with a fine dining feel,” said head chef JR Castaneda. “It’s a very unique and diverse menu.”

The 151-seat restaurant is equipped with several hibachi tables as well as a 15-seat sushi bar. An outside patio will be available in the warmer months.

“The hibachi show here is really amazing,” Castaneda said. “There’s way more going on here than most people have experienced at other hibachi restaurants.”

Sushi X is offering several “last minute” holiday party packages in association with its grand opening. Most include multi-course meals from $16-$36 per person, including appetizers, specialty cocktails and dessert.
