Though Burnt Mill Creek officially opened its doors Oct. 8, owner Hunter Ford is planning an official grand opening Friday.

Ford spent much of the summer and early fall renovating the space at 2101 Market St. The building once housed Carolina Farmin’, a locally based grocery store. The retail space has been broken down into several smaller units since the store closed in the fall of 2013.

Burnt Mill Creek will operate as a private billiards club, charging a $1 yearly membership for customers. There is a full bar and 18 beers on tap, many of them brewed in North Carolina. The taps will rotate, allowing Ford to showcase beers from around the state as well as some sought-after specialty brews from around the world. He has also selected a variety of wines to be served by the glass as well as the bottle and half-bottle.

“Sometime there is a question as to the freshness of a wine that’s poured by the glass,” Ford said. “And yet not everyone wants to have a full bottle. That’s why I think it’s important to have a great selection of half-bottles; you know you’re getting a great product without buying more than you want.”

There are several pool tables and plans for a billiards league.

The grand opening celebration on Friday will feature chef Keith Rhodes' new food truck Wing Star 6-10 p.m. Ford, who also owns Momentum Surf and Skate Shop, said that Momentum will purchase Burnt Mill Creek memberships for anyone attending the opening wearing a Momentum shirt or hat. Membership applications are available now on Burnt Mill Creek’s Facebook page for customers to download and fill out in advance of the event.

Burnt Mill Creek is open Monday-Thursday from 3 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.; Friday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturday from noon to 2 a.m.; and Sunday from noon to midnight.
