As a strong supporter of beer in the community, Fermental has crafted an eight-day extravaganza for Wilmington Beer Week 2014. The business has so much going on, in fact, that it warrants an entire section of this week’s Restaurant Roundup.
“From the revival of historic styles to the perfection of age-old classics to daunting experimental recipes, the art of beer is everywhere,” Fermental owner Steve Gibbs said. “Wilmington Beer Week is a localized celebration of this movement as well as a communal nod to our region's recent leap into the modern beer world.
"With new and developing breweries opening alongside bottle shops, beer-centric bars, home brew suppliers and more in the Port City, Wilmington has finally reached the level of its neighbors in Raleigh, Charlotte and Asheville. This eight-day event brings brewery representatives, distributors and tourists into our town in search of fine beers and the folks that make them, creating a positive economic impact for the entire city as well as spreading the love of all things beer.”
Fermental’s weeklong tribute kicks off Oct. 10 with the Great Pumpkin Debacle, a pumpkin beer celebration benefiting All 4 Cats, a local feline rescue organization. The event begins at 6 p.m. with food trucks, live music, games and a raffle.
Oct. 11 brings Bachtoberfest 2014: a celebration of the changing of seasons with an outdoor performance by the Tallis Chamber Orchestra. The 16-member ensemble will take over the beer garden at 3 p.m. where Oktoberfest beers and German wines will be flowing.

Oct. 16’s weekly wine and beer tasting takes a carbonated twist with an extra helping of several fine beers from around the world. The Vittles food truck will be on site and live music in the beer garden begins at 6 p.m.
