The awards for the 13th annual Taste of the Town event, a fundraiser benefiting Thalian Hall, were released late last week.

The Best Overall Award went to Cousins Italian Deli, which served samples of its Eggplant Rollatini, which the restaurant features regularly as an appetizer; as well as Rosemary Chicken, Penne Bolognese and carrot cake. While Cousins may be known for its deli sandwiches served at lunchtime, the eatery also offers family-style Italian dinners each weekend and is available for catering and private parties.

Having just celebrated its second anniversary, Cousins took home the Best Overall Award for the second year running though the restaurant shared it last year with co-winner Caprice Bistro.

Caprice Bistro took home the Best Entrée Award for its Beef Bourguignon, a traditional French beef stew prepared with red wine, onions, mushrooms and veal stock. Chef Thierry Moity serves the dish regularly at the restaurant.

“We want to thank everyone who voted for us,” Moity said. “We are so happy to take part in an event that supports the arts and are so thankful to our loyal customers.”

Elijah’s was awarded the Best Appetizer of the night for a Buffalo-style chicken meatball stuffed with feta cheese and served with a garlic-chive aioli. The dish was created for the Taste of the Town although its popularity at the event has prompted Elijah’s to consider putting it on the menu, according to chef de partie Brian Hemmer.

“The event went extremely well this year and was virtually sold out again despite some tricky weather,”  Thalian Hall marketing director Gary Tucker said.
