Add Cook Out to the list of growing eateries slated to set up shop in the Monkey Junction area of New Hanover County.

The North Carolina-based restaurant purchased the former Taco Bell at 5615 Carolina Beach Road, Cody Cress, founder of Wilmington-based The CRESS Group of Coldwell Banker Commercial Sun Coast Partners, said Tuesday.

Cress said the site will host the area’s second Cook Out eatery.

Cook Out currently operates a drive-thru location at 716 S. College Road near the University of North Carolina Wilmington campus.

Taco Bell vacated the space where the new Cook Out is moving into last year after constructing a new restaurant at 5972 Carolina Beach Road near the Beau Rivage Golf & Resort development.

Cress, along with Tyler Pegg, co-founder of The CRESS Group, represented Cook Out during the May 21 transaction worth $800,000, according to New Hanover County tax records.

Cook Out will join a number of new eateries that have moved to the fast growing part of the county in recent months, including Hot Pink Cake Stand and Firebelly Lounge.

No opening date has been announced for the company’s newest location.

Officials with the eatery chain could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

Founded in Greensboro, Cook Out is known for its outdoor-style cooked burgers, chicken and hotdogs, wide variety of milkshakes and long list of other menu items. The company has aggressively been growing across the state and the Southeast – with plans to add new eateries in the Carolinas, metro Atlanta, Tennessee and Virginia.
