Pizza lovers have another lunchtime deal option, this one at the recently opened Times Square Pizza at University Landing, 417 S. College Road.

Owner Walter Lemishev offers two cheese slices and a soda for $5.

Lemishev bakes Times Square’s pizzas on metal mesh rounds, which he says eliminate the flour or cornmeal residue that sticks to pizzas cooked on pans or stones.

Various toppings, including bacon and meatballs, may be added to slices or whole pies. Calzones, pizza rolls, salads, a few subs and familiar Italian entrees such as baked ziti and stuffed shells are served, too. Times Square Pizza also has a full bar equipped with televisions.

Lemishev said he hails from a Russian family that has been operating pizza places for 25 years in New York City’s Manhattan. Family in Wilmington and the city’s laid-back lifestyle convinced Lemishev to expand the business here, he said.

Since opening Times Square this past winter, Lemishev has spread word about the business via various charitable efforts. Times Square is a sponsor of Laney High School sports teams and recently donated 15 pizzas to the Children’s Museum of Wilmington, Lemishev said.

Time Square hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. until orders cease Friday and Saturday. Delivery is available for orders of $15 or more.
