By Samantha Freda, posted Apr 24, 2012

A local grassroots organization says its wants to educate more residents and businesses about the power of buying locally.

Slow Money of Wilmington — a grassroots movement aimed at directing local money toward local food providers —  is planning a meeting to discuss creative ways to inspire local purchases within the regional economy, according to a news release.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Grinders Café, located at 5302 Wrightsville Avenue.

The quarterly meeting will educate attendees how money can be brought to the Wilmington area to facilitate relationships between viable local small food projects and the capital need to sustain business efforts.

In less than two years over $535,000 in low-interest loans have helped start or expand 22 local North Carolina food businesses such as bakers, farmers, restaurants and a local food Cooperative.

For more information on the upcoming meeting contact Tyler Phillips at 415-652-3399 or [email protected].
