Mayfaire Plans New Restaurant

By K.J. Williams, posted Apr 30, 2010

A new restaurant is planned for Mayfaire Town Center. The space formerly occupied by Mexican restaurant Qdoba is under renovation for its next life serving Greek and Mediterranean fare as Zoe’s Kitchen.

It will be a casual restaurant featuring sandwiches and salads. Patio dining will be available. Beer and wine will be for sale, and there will be dinners for four offered as a carry-out item. The chain has 32 restaurants in nine states including North Carolina, according to a news release.

Recently, the center added extended-stay lodgings to its mixed-use development. Last month, Hilton Hotels opened its 118-room hotel, Homewood Suites. Amenities include a heated outdoor pool, business and exercise centers.

Sue Rice, the center’s director of operations, said Homewood Suites is also ideal for weekend guests to the area.

Homewood Suites is located adjacent to another Hilton offering, the 119-room Garden Inn.

The center also is losing a tenant. Rice said that that the center will be losing another tenant to bankruptcy, as it previously lost Linens ‘n Things and Sharper Image, Rice said.

A going-out-of-business sale is under way at Swoozie’s, a custom stationery and invitation store. But Rice said the center is doing well despite turnover and closings.

“We’re 95 percent leased in the town center with very little vacancies and a lot of interest in those vacancies,” she said.

Mayfaire’s free Music on the Town Concert Series, sponsored by Time Warner Cable, starts May 7 and runs through Sept. 3, every Friday night from 6 p.m. until dusk. The public is encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to enjoy the music.
Another sponsor, Jumpin Party Rentals, will provide inflatable games, cotton candy and snow cones for children for a fee.
