A Charlotte-based general contractor that opened a Wilmington office earlier this year recently broke ground on apartments in the Wilmington area.

The Port City branch of C. Herman Construction, 2715 Ashton Drive, Suite 100, recently marked the start of a Leland development, Encore at Westgate Townhomes.

The project with Graycliff Capital Partners and Keel Concepts Inc. consists of 240 townhomes for rent across 45 buildings, along with a clubhouse, a resort-style pool and a dog park. It's expected to be complete in 2024, according to the C. Herman Construction website.

In March 2021, the firm began work on The Reserve at Blake Farm Apartments, in partnership with Chaucer Creek Capital. The 240-unit garden-style development was designed by Planworx Architecture and could be finished this year.

Blake Farm, a 100-acre mixed-use project in Scotts Hill, is under development by Trask Land Co. Inc.

The projects represent an expansion for C. Herman Construction, which was founded in 2017 and is involved in preconstruction planning, construction management, general contracting and coastal restoration.

The Wilmington office “will allow us to service the Carolinas more efficiently and effectively,” said Chris Herman, president of the firm, in a news release.

Wilmington is the company's third office location in addition to Charleston, South Carolina.
