Crews have broken ground on a high-end apartment community in Renaissance Park off Military Cutoff Road in Wilmington.

GHK Cape Fear Development is the firm behind Renaissance Apartments, which includes 198 units in two buildings and 2,530 square feet of ground-level retail space. The community sits on 8 acres off Ashes and Fresco drives and includes one- and two-bedroom floor plans.

"We believe the location is arguably one of the best in town directly across from Mayfaire and steps away from shopping and restaurants at The Forum," said Brian Eckel, GHK Cape Fear partner and co-founder of Wilmington-based commercial real estate firm Cape Fear Commercial.

New York-based Dwight Capital provided nearly $35 million in new construction financing for Renaissance Apartments, according to a Dwight Capital news release. Dwight Capital Managing Director Brandon Baksh originated the transaction.

Eckel said the project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2021. Thomas Construction Group is the general contractor.

Amenities include a resort-style swimming pool, courtyard, fitness center and clubhouse.
