The owners of a 264-unit apartment complex off Market Street in Wilmington recently invested millions in upgrades to the property, including $1 million for a major clubhouse renovation.

The clubhouse project at Abbotts Run, 511 Cobblestone Drive, culminates in an unveiling Monday, said Anne Beck, director of property management for WE Communities, a national student and multifamily property management firm that operates Abbotts Run Apartments and other complexes throughout the U.S.

The clubhouse event will show off a revamped, 3,600-square-foot facility that includes an upgraded fitness center (pictured below), tanning booths, an outdoor pool and social deck and a cyber cafe with computer work stations, printing and a coffee bar.

The clubhouse changes come after the owners spent $2.5 million in apartment upgrades.

"I think our residents are very happy and really excited about the new changes," Beck said. "We've had a lot of success here. We really enjoy this market; we even have some corporate employees based here."

Abbotts Run occupants are a diverse mix, with demographics that include retirees, professionals and students.

Officials felt residents "needed a clubhouse where they could enjoy top-notch amenities and have the right atmosphere for entertaining," Beck said in a news release. "Besides having each apartment newly renovated as of 2017, the community also has a new pet park, social entertainment area with a pergola, seating areas and a fire pit."

The pet park has been especially popular, Beck said.

Investors purchased Abbotts Run, which was built around 2001, last year for nearly $24 million.
