Home Sales Show Gains In August Comparisons, New MLS Advances

By Cece Nunn, posted Sep 14, 2015
The number of homes sold in parts of Brunswick County rose 34 percent in August this year compared to last August, according to a news release Monday from the Brunswick County Association of Realtors.

Multiple Listing Service numbers for New Hanover, Pender and northern Brunswick counties also showed a gain, up 8 percent, for the same period, the Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors reported recently.

While figures from both associations showed a slight dip between the earlier summer months and August, that’s typical for the season, Realtors have said. The average sale price decreased by 5.6 percent year-over-year in August in the portions of Brunswick County covered by the BCAR MLS but showed a nearly 2 percent gain in the same period in WRAR's MLS tri-county figures.

The total sales volume in Brunswick County showed a 25.3 percent jump between last month and August 2014, from $48.23 million to $60.9 million, the BCAR release said.

“There is no doubt that the Brunswick County residential market is getting hotter,” Cumbie said. “Average days on market is at a 2015 low of 163 days.”

The Realtors associations also announced recently that the N.C. Regional Multiple Listing Service, which is owned by WRAR, BCAR and eight other associations, signed a contract with FlexMLS to provide a regional MLS that is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2016. In addition to New Hanover, Brunswick and Pender counties, the regional MLS will also cover Beaufort, Bladen, Carteret, Columbus, Craven, Duplin, Jones, Lenoir, Onslow, Pamlico, Pitt, Sampson and Wilson counties.
