A midtown floral business has expanded again, this time with a location for an events consultation venture.

Julia’s Florist this month opened Julia’s Events, a 3,000-square-foot space in Suite 4 at 894 S. Kerr Ave., which will serve as a hub for brides and others wanting to consult on the design of their weddings and major occasions.

“In my annual plan, one of the big pushes that I needed to follow through with was getting my event business up and running and an identity of its own,” said Dana Cook, owner of Julia’s Events and Julia’s Florist.

Cook hired an event design manager, Tricia Coleman, and an event director, Sarah Harris. Cook and her team have already met with clients in the space, including a bride-to-be that she described as “a high-profile MTV celebrity.”

“We want this to be a place where future brides and planners can relax over a tea and really delve into their floral design wishes,” Cook said in a news release about Julia’s Events. “We’re honored to be a part of their extremely personal life moment, and we believe the experiences leading up to it should be just as unique.”

Offerings at the center include one-on-one floral design consultations, examples of bouquet designs, some custom-made furniture (shown at right) and a Memory Making Workshop room, where planners can create their own centerpieces or parts of their centerpieces with friends and family members.

“We’re also going to be holding do-it-yourself, design-your-own [bouquets, etc] classes in here. The first one is ‘September Succulents,’” Cook said, a session that is scheduled for Sept. 27.

The regular hours of operation for Julia's Events are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. The center can be booked for special events upon request.

Last year, Cook opened Julia's Design Center in Crossroads Center, the same complex as Julia's Events. Julia's Florist has operated nearby at 900 S. Kerr Ave. in Wilmington since 1996

“I love midtown. There’s so much to offer at midtown and it’s really convenient for anybody who’s in the Landfall area or anybody who’s in the downtown area," Cook said of the location of her businesses.
