At Mayfaire, Palmetto Moon Opens; Candy Store To Come

By Cece Nunn, posted Nov 11, 2016
The first store in the newest retail buildings at Mayfaire Town Center opened this week, and more new stores are on the way to the Military Cutoff shopping center.

Palmetto Moon, a retailer based in Charleston, South Carolina, opened its 11th location in the U.S. on Tuesday in 6,000 square feet at 840 Town Center Drive.

The store sells clothing, shoes, accessories, décor and gifts "that celebrate life in the South," according to a news release from the company. Popular brands Palmetto Moon carries includeg Filson, Simply Southern, Yeti, Barbour, Costa, Southern Marsh, Jack Rogers, Fish Hippie and Sperry, among others.

The store also carries location-specific items.

"For Wilmington, this will include sports and tailgating gear for The University of North Carolina, University of North Carolina Wilmington, NC State University, and East Carolina University, along with clothing and accessories for the Wilmington beach lifestyle, and even local products," the release said.

It's the company's first North Carolina location.

"The response that we have gotten from the Wilmington community already has been wonderful, and we are eager to be a part of this incredible city and state of North Carolina,” said Palmetto Moon CEO Eric Holzer in the release.

Palmetto Moon in Wilmington will host world-renowned marine wildlife artist Guy Harvey at the store from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 4, the news release said. At the free event, Harvey will meet with fans, have his photo taken with fans and sign autographs.

Palmetto Moon started as a seasonal kiosk in Charleston’s Citadel Mall in November 2002, offering University of South Carolina and Clemson University merchandise. Now that the Wilmington location is open, the company has stores in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

In another first for the state, workers installed a sign recently for a new Fuzziwig's Candy Factory franchise at Mayfaire Town Center, located in the space formerly occupied by jewelry and accessory store Bijuju at 868 Inspiration Drive.

Fuzziwig's is based in Colorado and has locations in 19 states and three other countries, according to the candy store company's website. An opening date has not been set yet for the Mayfaire location.

In an additional change coming to Mayfaire, the town center's Sleep Number store is moving this winter from 6837 Main Street to 6864 Main St., the spot formerly occupied by Towne Toys

A two-story space in the cluster of new retail buildings on Town Center Drive at Mayfaire is expected to be occupied early next year by clothing store H&M. Other occupants have not yet been officially announced.
