A growing Wilmington physical therapy practice has expanded with a location in Hampstead.
Bodies in Balance opened a new office recently in Suite 230 at The Beacon, a building at 14057 U.S. 17 N. that includes several other medical tenants.
“The owners [Beth Connell and Michelle DuPree Zumbro] chose Hampstead because there’s a community need here,” said Jordan Rackley, physical therapist and clinical director for Bodies in Balance, who works out of the Hampstead location.
Creative Commercial Properties broker Henry Nadeau, listing agent for The Beacon, said there’s no question Hampstead, located just over the New Hanover County line in Pender County, is a growing community.
“Hampstead’s grown more than 10 percent over the past five years and just seems like it’s picking up steam here,” said Nadeau, referencing Pender County permit statistics.
In addition to serving Hampstead residents, Rackley said the office at The Beacon also provides a more convenient location for patients who live in towns that are even farther away from Wilmington, such as Sneads Ferry.
Connell and Zumbro established their practice in Wilmington in 2008 and will continue to work at their office in Suite 211 at 5710 Oleander Drive, along with about about nine other full-time physical therapists, Rackley said.
She said two of the practice’s specialties are lymphedema management, which involves assisting patients who have painful swelling in their limbs or other body parts, and vestibular rehabilitation, related to those who have had concussions, mild traumatic brain injuries or vertigo.
As of Monday, the new Hampstead clinic had already treated more than 100 patients since opening at the end of May, Rackley said.
Nadeau said other spaces are available for lease in The Beacon, where current tenants in addition to Bodies in Balance include KidzCare Pediatrics, Otero Dentistry, Village Pharmacy of Hampstead and Wilmington Eye Associates. The 24,330-square-foot tilt-slab building was constructed in 2008.
