The owners of a 24-hour fitness franchise for the Wilmington area have leased a second location as they prepare to open the first.

Anytime Fitness is opening at University Centre near Lowe's Home Improvement on Monday, while construction is expected to begin soon on a second fitness center at Fulton Station, 3700 S. College Road. Steve and Erin Uebele are the owners.

"When we were researching the area, nand we did a lot of market surveys, it was a really overwhelming response to having these extended hours and being open all the time and being able to go to different locations when people are traveling and going to the same fintess center with the same key fob. When you sign up with Anytime Fitness anywhere in the world, your key fob opens up every single gym," Steve Uebele said this week.

At 8,000 square feet, the University Centre location will serve as a flagship for the five Anytime Fitness centers the Uebeles are opening in the Wilmington area. They leased nearly 5,000 square feet (a typical Anytime Fitness size) in Fulton Station and currently have seven employees, Steve Uebele said.

Membership fees are $30 to $38 per month during Anytime Fitness' pre-sale, and will be $32 to $42 a month afterward. Students pay a flat rate of $29 per month, while veterans, law enforcement and others who do civil service work can get a 10 percent discount, Uebele said.

From Pennsylvania, the Uebeles have a home in Wilmington, and Steve Uebele said he had been working in the corporate work, in the pharmaceutical industry. Their family includes five children.

The Wilmington-area Anytime Fitness locations include strength training and cardio equipment, free weights and a studio for classes. The studio comes with a virtual reality training system, with which members who come late at night or during other off-hours can choose a specific fitness session from a touch-screen menu of 300 and, with the help of a 133-inch screen, can take a class from a virtual trainer.

Uebele said 200 members have already signed up during the pre-sale phase.
