A new Family Dollar store is proposed for a site at the corner of Greenfield and S. 13th streets, according to plans submitted to the city of Wilmington.

The store would be a little more than 8,200 square feet and have 27 parking spaces, plans show. The site development package for the new Family Dollar was submitted by Burton Engineering Associates of Charlotte, and the developer of the project is listed as The Durban Group, also of Charlotte. 

The plans say the site's zoning classification is Urban Mixed Use. The store's address would be 1313 Greenfield St., the plans show.

A new Family Dollar store opened at 770 S. 17th St. in Wilmington earlier this year, amid an expansion of the chain, which was acquired by Dollar Tree in a deal that closed in July.

Dollar Tree CEO Bob Sasser said that while the company will still open a couple hundred new Family Dollar stores, Dollar Tree has scaled back Family Dollar expansion plans, according to a Sept. 17 National Real Estate Investor article on the continuing growth of the overall dollar store retail market. Sasser made the comments during the Goldman Sachs 22nd Annual Global Retailing Conference, the NREI article says.
