Golf and technology work together at a business that opened recently on Gordon Road.

Golf and Sport Performance Center, a golf gym and analytics center, leased 1,500 square feet in Unit B of the Gordon Station retail center at 6626 Gordon Road.

Half of the space is devoted to a gym for golf-specific exercises, and the other half is an analytics center with the technology, including launch monitors and 3-D motion analysis, to help clients in their pursuit of a better game, said owner Greg Dennis.

“Golf now is a science,” Dennis said, with such measurements often taking precedence over style.

In the past, “you could teach somebody a style until you were blue in the face, but if they couldn’t do it physically, they could never do it. We kind of get around that now,” Dennis said.

Originally from North Carolina, Dennis chose to live in Wilmington when he moved back to the state from Wyoming, where he and a partner own a 6,000-square-foot Golf and Sport Performance Center.

Dennis opened the Wilmington center in August.

A longtime golf instructor, Dennis got his first job in the golf industry at Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, which is currently one of the top-ranked golf courses in the nation.

Dennis graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in zoology.

Lynn Harris, a commercial broker and Realtor with Century 21 Sweyer & Associates, helped Dennis lease the center.
